I'm just cloning my site from a legacy server. Does it first take an instant snapshot of the site first, including stuff like databases, then transfer it to the new server?
The site is about 4800 MB, how long should I expect it to take (roughly)?
So I went into my site and deleted loads of backups, and started again, now its under 1gb. Hopefully it will be faster, is there a way to kill the first clone?
septemberpublishing it’s basically just a new container so you can destroy it.
septemberpublishing it does not take a instant snapshot but uses the last finished backup on our off site server. So if you want you can go to backups and create a new one and when it’s ready for backup it’s ready to clone.
So how can I tell if the new site is being served or the old one? I cloned it, changed the nameserver settings at my domain registrar to the new one.
I think its the old site, as there are no logs, so am I just waiting for the nameserver propagation?
septemberpublishing Let me take a look but more then likely yes. Also with DNS local routers and browsers and even OS like windows will cache all dns locally for up to 48 hours.
septemberpublishing Ya looks like DNS is updated, might be a local cache. https://dnschecker.org/#NS/septemberpublishing.org
Yeah, I think it's up now, thanks. The challenge I had was being able to tell, the only way I could work it out was to check the logs.
